This
is a composite panorama of the bedroom, living and dining areas of my
yurt.
I am not a graphic artist so the seams are a little rough but at least it
gives
you some idea how the yurt looks inside.
See the
legend to the left to get a feel for the amount of floor area involved.

Bob Edwards took the first three pictures
on this row the day he wrote the story about my yurt. A little has changed
since spring: I painted my front door, installed insulated screen windows in
the front and back doors, and added the clothesline.
|
Inside things may look the same, but the
ceiling is now insulated, the air-tight wood stove is installed and my
shower is almost done.
|
This is a picture of me beside my solar
panels.
|
This is my new air-tight wood stove. I love
it and it sure makes the yurt extra cozy.

Danny gave me these fence posts so I could better define my
corners. Today I made the trellis from old pipe and two different kinds of
fence. In front of the trellis I planted three morning glories. |

Danny gave me some rough fence posts which I stacked in the
front corners of the yard to give it a sense of defined space. the lilies
are growing (so is the grass). |

My friend Mitch gave me this azalea last year. It is indeed
beautiful. Thanks Mitch! |

Paul and my friend Trilce came down today
and helped me put the 2nd layer of insulation and the outside cover on the
river side of the yurt. |

Many have emailed asking for a view of the back side of my
yurt, so here it is. |

Last fall my friend Randy gave me some day lilies. They are
so beautiful. |

At least once a week someone asks if I have a
bathroom, here it is. I love the tub! |

Yesterday Charlie and I put down the first stages of a 3'
wide gravel walkway around most of the yurt. |

I built a trellis for the raspberry vines I brought from
Danny's farm last year. You can't see it, but I transplanted a second row
using the vines that had layered over the winter. |

Billie found me this cool organizer. With it I can eliminate
two more pieces of furniture. More wide open space. Yeah! |

Paul and Natalie came up earlier this week and helped me put
on the new side cover Billie and I sewed the previous week. This side now
has two layers of bubble wrap and the green tarpaulin. This side is
completely done except for the windows. |

Last week I finished putting the cabinets in and today Paul
cut the kick plate and put it in place. |

The left side of the kitchen is coming together. My reworked
wood cook stove came from Carpet Baggers Antiques in Oak Hill, WV. |

The kitchen cabinets are going in but aren't quite finished. |

The wall outside the bathroom has been covered and a privacy
window installed. |

Wow. Mom and dad bought me this wardrobe for my birthday in
September. |

The woodstove keeps the house toasty but because it isn't
airtight it burns out after about 2 hours. I've almost saved enough to buy a
airtight stove. |

The entryway wall needs painted. Off-white it will be. Maybe
a mirror or stenciled vines will finish it off. |

Two layers of insulation are on the short side and one layer
is on the long side. The underpinning is progressing and the batteries
really need to go into a box. |

The plastic side cover was supposed to be temporary. Note the
solar panels are on a sled type contraption. I created this to allow me to
move them around during construction and so I could find the optimum
year-round location before permanently mounting them. |

My cast iron bed (with mama's quilt and papa's trunk) make my
bedroom functional and beautiful. My brother Danny restored my bed and Mr.
Billie restored my dresser. |

A peek inside at my dining/living room: cozy, beautiful. The
lamp belonged to Grandma Grindstaff. |

The deck is 24' in diameter and made from 2"x6" tongue and
groove pine boards; providing 453 square feet of living space.
|

The walls are comprised of 164 1"x2" cabinet grade pine
furring strips. There are 1400+ cross-over points. Each is secured with a 1
3/4" carriage bolt and a vinyl lined safety nut. |

Each of the 44 rafters are 2" x 4" x 11' 6". Each is tied
into the 5' center ring using a 6" hardened steel pin. |

The top cover is made from reinforced vinyl. The translucent
stripe sewn into the top cover (right of photo) is a wonderful skylight. |
